German shadow economy expected to grow in 2010: According to new estimates by Professor Friedrich Schneider (University of Linz) and the IAW, the German shadow economy is expected to grow by 2 % in 2010. The estimated volume of the shadow economy in relation to official gross domestic product remains constant. [ more ]

The IAW hosted the 5th Macroeconomic Research Meeting (MAREM) on March 12th-13th, 2009. [ more ]

Experts discuss the impact of financial crisis: The IAW held its annual members meeting on March 10th, 2009, at the Deutsche Bundesbank in Stuttgart. A public forum was devoted to the “Consequences of the Financial Crisis for the Economy”. Panelists included Dr. Jan Stefan Roell (Südwestmetall), Dr. Holger Schmieding (Bank of America), Dr. Volker Treier (DIHK), Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Wiegard (University of Regensburg und German Council of Economic Experts). Chairperson Professor Dr. Claudia Buch (IAW).

The forum started with the award of the Norbert-Kloten-Prize for Applied Economic Research to Stephan Jank (University of Tübingen) for his Thesis on "Money Market Funds and Liquidity Risk: An Empirical Analysis of Fund Flows and Returns". The Prize is awarded annually by the IAW and the Stuttgart Regional Office of the Deutsche Bundesbank to commemorate Norbert Kloten, Chairman of the IAW Board for many years and President of Landeszentralbank Baden-Württemberg.

Another highlight was a lecture by Professor Bernd Fitzenberger Ph.D. (Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg) on "More Education and Training: Will It Solve Germany’s Labour Market Problems?“
