Andreas Koch studied geography, urban planning, and public law at the Universities of Hannover, Tübingen, Stuttgart and Rio de Janiero focusing on economic geography and development studies. In his doctoral thesis (2006), he deals with spatial and evolutionary aspects of the foundation of innovative employee start-ups.

From 2000 to 2003, he was a reseracher at the Centre of Technology Assessment (Akademie für Technikfolgenabschätzung) in Baden-Württemberg and he is working as a research associate at the Institute for Applied Economic Research since March 2003

In his current work, he focuses on entrepreneurship research, industrial dynamics and innovation studies.

Recently, he is also engaged in working with newly available German micro-data, e.g. the firm register of the Statistical Offices or the Establishment History Panel of the Federal Employment Agency in various projects.



Current Projects:

  • Integrated project MICRO-DYN: Growth, employment and competitiveness in the knowledge-based European economy. Commissioned by the European Commission (2006/2010).
  • The impact of start-ups on the qualification, age and wage structure of the employment in Baden-Württemberg. Commissioned by: Ministry of Economics Baden-Württemberg (2007/2009).
