Analysis of the distribution of income and wealth in Germany (Follow-up study on Poverty and Wealth Reporting)

This project was commissioned by the German Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS) as a preparatory study for the 5th Poverty and Wealth Report of the Federal Government. The analysis of the income and wealth distribution in the 4th Report are continued and further developed. A particular emphasis is on the reasons for changes in the income distribution; the results will be put into context with the macroeconomic and social framework and legislative measures. A deepened analysis of material wealth is another focus of the project. Additionally, the distribution of resources within the household will be analyzed and evaluated.

The project will use the survey "European Union Statistics on Income and Living Conditions" (EU-SILC) and the Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP) as databases (each up to survey year 2013). Additional information on the assets of private households and persons will be drawn from the Sample Survey of Income and Expenditure (EVS) 2013 and the SOEP wealth files 2002 to 2012.
