July 9, 2025: 10th Bundesbank-IAW-Lecture at the University of Tübingen

Dr. Joachim Nagel is the President of the Deutsche Bundesbank and a member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank. He studied Economics at the University of Karlsruhe where he earned his doctorate in 1997. Dr. Nagel joined the Deutsche Bundesbank in 1999. He held a series of increasingly senior roles, covering areas such as market analysis, banking supervision, financial stability, and information technology. From 2010 to 2016, he served as a member of the Executive Board of the Deutsche Bundesbank.

Between 2016 and 2020, Dr. Nagel worked for the KfW Group, joining its Executive Board in 2017. From 2020 to 2022, he served as Deputy Head of the Banking Department at the Bank for International Settlements in Basel (BIS). He was appointed President of the Deutsche Bundesbank in January 2022.

Dr. Nagel holds numerous other positions such as member of the General Board and the Steering Committee of the European Systemic Risk Board, Governor at the International Monetary Fund, member of the BIS Board of Directors, Co-chair and member of the BIS Innovation Hub, member of the Plenary and the Steering Committee of the Financial Stability Board, member of the G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors, and member of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors.
