Social Worker/Social Pedagogue, M.A. (FH); studied Social Work at the Protestant University of Applied Sciences (EvH) in Bochum and did her Master's degree in "Social Work in an International and Intercultural Context" at the University of Applied Sciences - HAWK Hildesheim. She initially worked in social work practice for several years before becoming a research assistant at the Faculty of Social Work and Health at HAWK Hildesheim (2014 - 2019). She gained experience in qualitative social research in the EFRE-funded project "SchuB Nds.". For one year (2021 - 2022) she assumed a substitute professorship for social policy at the HAWK Hildesheim. Her fields of work and research interests are in the areas of labor market and social policy, social policy interventions and social inclusion, over-indebtedness of private households and debt counseling in social work, as well as social work in health services.

Kathrin Mittelstät has been a research associate at IAW since August 2022. Her current research activities focus on projects in the fields of labour market and vocational training issues and their scientific evaluation by qualitative methods.

Kathrin Mittelstät is doing her PhD in sociology at Bielefeld University and is a member of the Bielefeld Graduate School in History and Sociology (BGHS). Her dissertation deals with inclusion concepts in activating labor market policies in Germany and Sweden. Her project is supervised by Prof. Lutz Leisering PhD and Prof. Dr. Uwe Schwarze.
