Regional econometric study on economic development in rural areas of Baden-Württemberg

The study aims at identifying and quantifying determinants, influencing factors and success factors of economic development for Baden-Württemberg and especially for the local rural areas as well as analyzing correlations between different factors. On the basis of a comprehensive regional database (in particular district data from various sources), regional econometric analyses are used to examine the relationships, causes and effects between the characteristics of the regions and various indicators of economic development. In addition, we use simulations to look at possible future developments and their significance for the regions of Baden-Württemberg. The latter map dependencies of the economic development in Baden-Württemberg on global, national and regional value chains and are the basis for differentiated decoupling-scenarios.

The project results will be examined in greater depth in the context of regional case studies and communicated to the interested public in events and publications. In the process, both local and regional actors (e.g. administrative districts, state, industry representatives) who are concerned with the structure and dynamics of economic development in the (rural) areas and the possible influencing factors will also be involved in the evaluation and transfer of the results into political practice.
