Jochen Späth studied economics, specialising in quantitative methods, at the University of Tübingen, Germany, and at the Universidad del Pais Vasco, Bilbao, Spain. He has been an IAW research associate since 2007, since April 2022 also administrative managing director.
In 2013 he obtained his doctorate at the University of Nuremberg, Germany, with a dissertation on the demand for non-standard employment in incumbent firms and firm start-ups (title of the dissertation: Firm Age and Employment Flexibility in Germany).
His work focuses on empirical labour market research, especially in the area of skills shortages and working conditions as well as atypical employment and income inequality. The connection to the health economy and care plays an important role.
