Multinational Firms: New Theories and Empirical Evidence Based on German Firm-Level Data

The DFG project "Multinational Enterprises: New Theories and Empirical Evidence from German Firm-Level Data" uses the comprehensive MiDi database by the German Bundesbank to enhance our knowledge on the multinational firm. Based on new theoretical models that explicitly incorporate heterogeneity at firm-level, we analyze determinants of German firms’ decision to internationalize their production and the effects of this decision on the German economy. The rich dataset enables us to keep the empirical analysis very close to the theory of the multinational firm. While our research is very much theory-driven, the aim is to participate in academic and in the public debate on globalization issues. For more information on current working papers, see here.
